There and back again!

By Jasper Burger

The last eight years have been a rollercoaster of adventure and a huge learning curve. I’ve worked with so many diverse people, and for very interesting people.

With the work being seasonal one moves from the winter season at one club straight into the summer season at the next. Never have I worked so hard and never have I learnt so much! When I look back now, my memories are a bit hazy and in some cases I’m not sure exactly which event happened at which club!

Working at Jupiter Hills Club and Baltusrol Club exposed me to exceptional levels of professionalism and work ethics.

It was interesting to note that I found the same standards of professionalism in operation at Workaway South Africa when I joined them as a recruiter in the Gauteng area. I have had the opportunity to meet a bunch of awesome people at our presentations, at the hotel schools and universities. It is great to meet like-minded people who want to expand their knowledge and experiences through work and travel. And it is mind-blowing to think that my 6-month initial program has turned into a career that has spanned eight years.  It is exciting and comforting knowing that hard work pays off!

Recruiting is going well in Gauteng and I am very pleased with the caliber of applicants I am interviewing. Seeing their excitement and enthusiasm makes my job so much fun and there is never a dull moment.

I will be out and about promoting Workaway and at our upcoming presentations. Say hi if you see me - I cannot wait to meet you!

Melissa heads home from her Workaway International adventure!

By Melissa Chauvet

It is so good to be home! As I’ve mentioned before, my Workaway International experience flew by so quickly – before I knew it I was packing to come back. And the packing was just as much of a nightmare as I thought it would be (but somehow I managed to bring all my belongings home).

To the candidates who have gone up north for the summer, I wish you a great season, full of fun and horizon-broadening experiences you’ll build your future on. Welcome back to those who have come home - I’m sure you’re happy to see your family and friends. I hope everyone’s flights went well and you’re not too jetlagged.

Now that I’m home, I have been given the opportunity to recruit for Workaway International again. If you’re reading this because you’re interested in the program, and you have experience in the hospitality industry, please attend our next presentation.
