Chronicles of a Workaway Participant

By Jasper Burger

Living in the US as a seasonal worker must be one of the most interesting and fascinating lifestyles out there.

Working up to 60 hour weeks with wonderful colleagues and to work for amazing members is what makes those busy weeks’ worth it. It also allows you to travel the US as I did this weekend to Manhattan and Connecticut straight after my Valentines dinner dance shift ended.

So much preparation, blood, sweat and yes tears went into that one evening for the members from all departments in the club but all worth it when they are happy and sincerely shaking your hand afterwards. Members were dancing and the room looked gorgeous with massive centre pieces on tables and epic long golden drapes from each corner in the dining room. We looked very professional wearing tuxedos gents looked dapper and women looked beautiful. Members were shocked and awed by presentation of the dining room and staff not to mention the meal. That’s the response you want when you do this industry.

That’s the whole point of the program if you work hard enough and give your best efforts at your club good things happen.

Interviews for up north have commenced and congratulations to those who have been selected to go experience another 6 months of America. Well deserved and looking forward participating up north preparing for big events at respective clubs and living the life as a Workaway participant.
