Working in the US of A!

By Regine Stubbs

After a long process and a long flight! I finally made it to America! All Thanks to the amazing team of Workaway International of course!

Well I have been in Florida for almost a month now! Seeing that I want to work abroad and gain international experience it was the perfect opportunity. Had a few obstacles before I could get here but hey, I’m here now and like my mom always says everything happens for a reason!

You definitely come here to work! It’s hard work and long hours but it’s definitely worth it and on your off days you can explore! And there is so much to do!

But I have to say hunters Run Country Club has been amazing since day 1! Everyone is friendly and never hesitates to help when you ask!
Looking forward to the season ahead!

Back to Boca!

By Tara Clampett

It was time to move back to sunny Florida with temperatures in New York getting closer and closer to zero near the end of October!

Although it was emotional leaving my managers and friends in NY, it was also bittersweet as I looked forward to seeing my friends and managers at Boca West after not seeing them for the past six months.

My flight out of New York was delayed TWICE and all I wanted was to get back to my apartment in sunny Florida! After a bumpy flight I was finally in back on Floridian soil – however the sun decided to disappear and the rainstorm started just as I was dragging my overweight suitcases up to our third floor apartment! Needless to say I was so relieved when I finally made it through our front door.

Coming back to Boca West the next day for our returner orientation and it felt like I had never left. While many of us had come from a successful season Up North, we were also so happy to be back and the energy and excitement between the new staff and returners was infectious!

Shortly after I arrived back in Florida my roommate from Up North and I went to see The Chainsmokers live in Miami – I have always dreamed of seeing them live since I heard their debut song ‘Closer’ back when I first came to the USA in 2015 and sharing this experience with her was incredible!

Another highlight of the season is the Boca West Holiday Party and this year was another great night when us employees felt like members for the night! There were loads of prizes to be won and I was so happy to see employees who work so hard and such long hours win some of the prizes!

Here’s to another great season at the number one private Country Club in Florida!

Getting into my grove

By Zander Fritz

I’m officially at that point, I’ve got my work schedule and built my daily routine around it. Now I’m geared up to explore Florida. So far, I have had one outing to Miami Beach, which can only be described as a peaceful raging party. When you’re at the waters front its care calming and silent and the only sounds to hear are the waves breaking. But when you walk up to the main road you are greeted with a huge variety or restaurants, so bizarrely mixed and matched that I ate at a Cuban restaurant but could enjoy the party next door which was having a full drag queen show. But definitely my highlight of the evening is seeing the absolutely amazing structure of the “Hard Rock Hotel” that is shaped like a guitar.

Then just to make sure that we are never at low spirits Boca West had their annual staff Christmas party for all the staff, which honestly could not have been accomplished any better. From all the Food, Music, decoration to the joyful atmosphere, it was just perfect. But one thing I’m glad to announce our South African Malva pudding recipe is safe at home. No American will ever be able to recreate pure South African heritage and I look forward to eating proper South African Malva pudding when I get home. But they sadly do beat us when it comes to decorating, because even in the hot humid climate they managed not one but two Christmas themed ice sculptures.

Due to the department I work in I don’t get staff meals, but that has allowed me to be creative with my food. So, I’ve been thinking up recipes and bringing them to life on my off days to make sure I eat healthily and not just eat 2 minute noodles like so many people I know on the program. One thing is for sure I have made time to play with all the cats in my complex. They just sit with you and enjoy the heat of the sun.

Your Only limit is you

By Nondumiso Sibanda

l am back for my second season and this time around at Boca West Country Club. l have greatly missed Florida especially the warm winter nights. It has been a month, and all is going well.

Starting at a new club can be quite daunting but l have since adjusted. I love that Boca has 6 restaurants which is the best way for learning and gaining experience in each and every one of them. I have already had the pleasure of working in two of them so far and l cannot wait to explore all of them!

Getting to know everyone is so exciting, be it on the bus which takes us to and from work or at the apartments that we stay at. There are 2 pools, a fitness center and 2 tennis courts all for those off work days.

I do miss my family and l constantly call them using the boss revolution application. It is quite easy and cheaper to use especially for those grannies back home who hardly use social media.

It has always been my dream to work at Boca West and l am so excited to be here!

The club is hosting an Employee Christmas party in a week’s time. Hear all about it in my next blog.

Remember; Your only limit is you!

Till next time

Love Noni
